What's been your best/favorite amp purchase?

  1. As of now, mine has been a Behringer BX600, which I just received today! $140 off Music123. What's yours?
  2. The amp I have now: An Ampeg B100R $450

    Excellent tone, loud and compact.

    My previous amps were:

Fender Bassman 60 - Good tone, compact, tiltback cab. One day it just decided it didn't want to work anymore. $360

Yamaha B-100-115 - Pretty good tone for its day (1978) It's twice the size of the Ampeg having the same power and speaker. (100 watts into 1x15)
The sound was actually good, but, what a pain to move. It weighs about 100 lbs. I still have it, but, it doesn't sound like it used to; maybe the speaker is gone. $303

Kasino (Kustom) 125 watt head w/2x15 bottom. (1975) I forgot what I paid for it.
Very loud, average tone. I think it went to 160 watts @ 4 ohms, but, I can't be sure. What a dinosaur!

    Ah, the memories! :)

do you mean best head, pre, cab, combo, amp?? complete rig??

My favorite piece of a rig so far is my RBI pre. can make bad guitars or cabs or amps sound better, flexible, makes sound fatter if you like kind of tubey soft sound, good soft overdrive, active tone controls.

Best purchase I ever made was an Ampeg B-1R. I'm really beginning to miss that head.

best purchace is def SWR goliath sr 6x10. best bargin is HH electronics bass baby studio combo for £150.

    love em both
  6. My favorites are the ones I have right now. The main rig is a Ampeg B4R and the cabinets that make this a rig match up real well. They are a Peavey 210 TVX and a Crate 1/18. Trust me it's awesome and did not cost an arm or a leg.

The second amp I have is a Peavey Firebass 700. Now this is not some great or special amp unless you got it plugged into a Peavey 410 TVX with the 4 ohm speaker cabinet. I love this set. It's one of Peavey's best kept secrets. Instant pants flapper.

My third rig which is a work in progress is a Warwick 411 Pro cabinet and I am in the process of purchasing the Warwick IV head.

I have way too much gear to pick an absolute favorite purchase, though in the best bang for the buck category, $100 for my Stewart UDP-1a preamp pretty much takes the cake. Check it out on the Great Preamp Shootout 2 at Basstasters.com. It holds its own fairly well against some of the "big boys" which cost many times its price.

  8. Used Ampeg SVT head for $450 in 1973,great tone and tons of power. Now it's a toss up between my RBI preamp($200) and my Eden 210XLT I bought new.I had two 210XLTs and the worst thing I've done is let one of them go.

my favorite combo that I owned, so far, was the ampeg b50r, not good with a drummer, but vitage tone? I guess. B100r would have probably been better with a band.

The combo I recommend to people asking about combos?.....SWR Workingman 12 never owned one though, of all the WM line I like the 12 best tone of the line and louder than the 10. I had a 10, but would never go back because I don't like that tone now. it was loud though at the time

My favorite is my Ampeg B100-R. It's not light, but it is compact. It sounds awesome and is pretty darn loud. I would LOVE to see a mod for this where it allowed a 115 extension cab with the same vintage look. That would just kill! :D

I also really dig my Ampeg SVT400T. That is a very sweet sounding amp. I loved it through my old Avatar Compact 15, 12 set.

I am really looking forward to getting my new Ampeg SVT1540he cab. This is really matched to the 400t head, so I am betting that it will sing.
  13. It would be either a Mesa Boogie Bass 400 and road ready 2-15 Boogie cab. Or the rig I have now which is a vintage svt and svt anniversary 810 cab.
  14. Fender BXR25. Had it for years. Still use it. Love it. I have no other amps (they came and went).

    Best value? Used GK 1001RB - $400
Best piece? Used Ampeg SVP - $280
  16. Mike A, glad you are digging the Ampeg SVP. I'm glad it found a good home.

So far my best amp purchase is the one I just got. Mesa/Boogie 400+ and my 2 Ernie Ball Musicman 2x12 cabs. Sounds so good it'll make u wanna slap yo mama.;)
  17. i bought a bloody red crown K2 for very cheep. it was classified as obsolete product, since colors other than black had been discontinued.

sadly, i had to sell it, but it remains the best-sounding amplifier suitable for bass guitar purposes on the market. i wish i still had mine, but at least i made a profit on it, two years after i bought it!

so that was both my best deal, and my best piece.

  18. EBS Fafner head... I own 4 great Trace Elliots and several others but they aren't even close to it in any regard.
