Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [BG]' started by Jeff Rader, Aug 12, 2001.

  1. So, what do you take with you when you play?

    Here's my list:
    • Extra instrument cable
    • Extra patch cables
    • Extra speaker cable
    • Minidisc recorder, stereo mic, minisdiscs, power adapter, extra battery
    • Stereo patch cables
    • Wire cutter
    • Small screw driver
    • Extra 9 volt batteries
    • Neck adjustment wrench
    • Strings
    • Power strip
    • Cloths
    • Polish
    • Pencils
    • Sticky notes
    • Small fan
    • String winder
    • Metronome
    • Couple of CDs
    • Crumpled up paper and wrappers in the bottom ;)

I need to have a set of preamp tubes in there as well.

Didn't realize I had so much stuff!

    wrench for the bridge,
    3 different fake book,
    cords,
    tuner,
    strings (already cut)
    ear plug!

    That's about it I think.

Been about a year since we had one of these threads.:)

I have way too much stuff in mine!:D

    Here we go.

    • Mini butane torch - I have no idea how that got in here!
    • Extra fuse & holder for SWR amp(ever lost a fuse holder that no other amp uses?)
    • Fingernail clippers
    • Business cards for oldies band
    • Picks(which I rarely if ever use)
    • Knob from Ibanez Distortion pedal. I have no idea where the pedal is.
    • Mini flashlight
    • Allen wrench set, of which about half are missing:confused:.
    • 6" Crescent wrench
    • Xacto knife
    • Pliers
    • 9/16" combination wrench
    • Stubby phillips head screwdriver
    • 6 sets of strings. 1 Fender black nylon, 1 Smith stainless steel 6 set, one used 6 set, one used 5 set, two used 4 sets. The used ones are for spares, if I break a string.
    • 3 band pens
    • Zoom 506 pedal with AC adapter(use for a tuner)
    • Fast Fret
    • Power strip
    • Lineman's pliers
    • Dunlop guitar polish
    • Soft bag with sheet music, manual for Eden Metro and misc receipts for gear in it.
    • Foot switch for Metro
    • Pack of cable ties
    • 1 velcro cable tie
    • 2 packs of plastic leg tips, no idea what I bought them for.
    • Croakie
    • Homemade finger rest and 2 screws 2 mount it with.
    • Scotch tape.
    • Pack of 100 coax cable clips
    • Marksman slingshot replacement kit
    • 3 power cords for bass amp
    • 1 no good instrument cable
    • 2 crappy 6 foot patch cords
    • 8 short patch cords
    • 1 4xRCA patch cable

Jeff, thanks for giving me the opportunity to clean out my bag:)

What do you use for a gig bag? I use a large, multicompartment gym bag.

  5. I've been using the side pocket and the inside of my Sadowsky bag. I need to get a better system!

When I bought my Sadowsky I also bought a very good gig bag. The pocket are very big!
That's cool, but the gig bag is really heavy sometimes.

Since I don't gig much at all I don't have much but here goes...

-More picks than I'll ever use
    -a couple cords

-a massive tuner from the '80s
    -my bass

I don't like tools and stuff in with my basses, don't want to ding them up.

The only things in my cases or bass bags are the bass, and in the ones that I use a lot, a strap and a cord.

I tried that...the smallest fan I could find was about 5'3". All she did was complain all night, too.
So how big a bag are you toting?

    Embellisher-
    ...man, a Butane torch?!
Ever see that episode of Seinfeld where George had every damn thing under the sun crammed into his wallet? ;)
(Although I also carry some Kleins in my bag).

You guys who aren't toting enough:
    Make real sure you have-
    Extra strings(like 2 spare sets)
    Extra batteries(that are 'good')
    Extra strap(I have broken one)
    Fuses
    Spare cords(speaker & instrument)
Tools(screwdrivers, tweakers, & FULL set of Allens) ;)

I dunno about the idea of carrying spare tubes; seems like they'd get 'damaged' from all the joustling around(?).

    Last check I had:

    1 set 4 string Alembic CX3
    1 set 5 string Alembic CX3
1 set 6 string Ken Smith Rock Masters
    a Korg Tuner
    a Korg Pandora's Box PX3B (my crutch)
    a power supply
a cloth diaper (great for wiping down basses)
    several patch cords
    a string winder
    a wire cutter
    set of optometrists screwdrivers
Standing In The Shadows Of Motown
a set list and program from three gigs ago (guess I liked that gig)
6 9 volt batteries (3 of my basses take 2 each)
4 AAA batteries (in case Pandora gets hungry)
    a pack of Starbursts

    Peace,

    James

  12. Hmmm...currently, besides my basses, just a set of screwdrivers. :p

    But normally, I'll also have:
    allen wrenches
    spare strings
    spare cord(s)
    spare batteries

Not much, really...but oh well. :p

I use a briefcase to carry all my extra junk with. All that go in my bass cases are the bass itself and a strap.

    In mine I have:
    Tuner
    2 new sets of strings
2 used sets of strings (in case of the broken one)
    truss rod wrench
    Leatherman tool
Full set of small allen wrenches
    3 phillips screwdrivers
    2 standard screwdrivers
    Sans Amp Bass Driver DI
    A/C adapter for Sans Amp
    2 extra straps
1 XLR cord (for running direct)
    2 15' instrument cords
    2 3' speaker cables
a notebook with a few notes that I have scratched out for songs
4 packs of Duracell 9 volts (2 per pack)
    spare fuses for bass head
a pack of Big Red gum (how old I dunno)
a few assorted picks (which I never use)
Dunlop guitar cleaning stuff (5 different bottles)
a can of Warwick guitar wax
a bunch of reciepts for gear
    a power strip/surge protector

    That's about it.

Wow - you guys must have large gig bags. In mine, I have my bass, my Zoom multi-effects box (which I hardly use), my Korg tuner, 2 leads, 2 straps, a screwdriver, and 2 extra 9 volt batteries. That's it. Having extra strings is a good idea though...

So Ryan and Jeffs, I think you mistook "gig bag" for "large automotive vehicle". Whoa!

1st - guys with receipts in your bags, if those are receipts for anything major, put 'em in a safe place in case you need 'em for insurance claims someday (knock-wood).

This is a good excuse to root through the bag. It's a leather bag, not that large (not quite 2 ft x 1ft), with pockets on either end and on the sides. Weighs about 20 pounds when full.

Bass(es) travel in their own case(s).

    On one end pocket :

    - Leather strap
    - A/C adaptor, variable voltage and polarity
    - amp power cord
    - 6ft instrument cable
    - plastic bags
    - earplugs
    - loose coins
    - old setlist

    Other end pocket :

    - 3 speaker cables
    - fast fret
    - spare fuses
    - guitar effects guidebook vol. 13 (???)
    - batteries
    - earplugs
    - cloth
    - names/numbers/addresses of some fans on beer coasters

    Side pocket :

    - empty (gotta have extra space)

    Other side pocket :

    - blank cassette tape
    - small flashlight
    - key to something, not sure what
    - lyrics on some scrap paper
    - sticker
    - setlist on unopened junk mail envelope
    - picks (for guitar player and sometimes other bassists)

    Main part :

    - instrument stand
    - small towel
    - plastic bag
    - 4 instrument cables of varying lengths
    - another strap (my guitar player needs it sometimes too)
    - 3 sets of spare strings (new and used)
    - Sans Amp Driver DI
    - Sans Amp Bass Compactor
    - BOSS Tu-2 stage tuner
    - camera in camera bag

To all that I add a mini-casette recorder when going to gigs or practice.

  20. on a gig i always bring :

    - Bassguitar ( Ibanez EDC705 )
    - Amplifier ( SWR workingman's 4004 )
    - Speaker cabinet ( EDEN cx410 )
    - Overdrive pedal ( Boss ODB-3 )
    - Multi-effect pedal ( Korg AX1B )
    - Wireless link ( Samson VHFTD )
    - 6 5-meter cables ( wireless -> overdrive, overdrive -> amp, loop-send -> multi-fx, multi-fx -> loop-return, 2 spare )
    - 2 power-cables ( 1x amp, 1x spare )
    - 3 adapters ( overdrive, multi-fx, spare )
    - some tie-wraps
    - medium-sized fan.
    - fold-able holder for my bass
    - 2x spare 9v-battery
    - paper + permanent-maker
    - ducktape
    - 6 cans of Jolt-cola(tm)
    - towel + deo
    - clean clothes

there's probably some things i forgot, but this is about it i gues...
