What's the cheapest you've bought a Fender MIM P Bass? What condition was it in? What upgrades have you made to it since? I just bought a mint one for $450 (List price on Sweetwater being $624). I'm curious
I got one for $250 in a pawn shop, back when new ones were $500. It was in pristine condition, but the typical boring black with a white p/g. No upgrades, because soon after I bought a U.S. Fender, the JP-90.
I bought one a few months ago, white on white, at a pawn shop as well. Tagged at 399, paid 300 bucks out the door. Likely never played by orig owner. I upgraded pots and jack: This one had knockoff "CTS lite" pots, which didn't work too well; too loose and behaved like on/off switches. Jack was weak, not a switchcraft, iirc.
$200 - it was in great condition, only one small nick on the side. It also came upgraded with SD pickups and a Badass II bridge.
I don't think I've owned a MIM P-Bass I've owned a '79 Fender Black P-Bass I picked up for $180 in a pawnshop. I still own a '90 MIJ Fender '57RI Oly White P-Bass I picked up for $125 in a pawnshop. I let all my 2- '79 and 1- '78 American P-Basses that I owned go, because my '90 MIJ P-Bass played and sounded better than all of them. From what I'm hearing these days, these newer MIM Fender P-Bass are great for the money.
