I need a little authoritative knowledge please. What is the frequency of the low E on a four string bass (considering: A4=440Hz, and an equally tempered scale). Thanks.

  2. Dan Rather will be along soon with the info.

    Please don't punch him. :D

(I haven't thought of this in a long time.)

As I recall, about 41Hz (41.3Hz comes to mind).

Many thanks to all you dwellers of the deep, Sons-of-Pastorius, heirs to the throne of Dunn.

I just wanted to make sure of the freq. that I had surmised on my own.

In case you were wondering why...

I play guitar (please don't hate me) and have a bass at home for recording. I'm a ME by training and am starting to look into speaker cabinet design. One of the first things I'm doing is upgrading my bass system to something I can play out with if necessary. So, I wanted to know some frequency information for tuning the cab.

    Low E is about 41.2034446141

The equation to find any note in

X * 2 ^ (Y/12) where x is a reference note (usually an A since it is exactly 440 Hz) and y is how many semitones above or below the target note is from the reference.

    ie 27.5 * 2 ^ (7/12)

27.5 is an A that is close to low E and 7 because E is 7 semitones above that A.

    Hope this helps
  7. According to Thor's Sig. it's 41.2 Hz...
