An All-original '77 Boo Stingray with the original case for $300.00 and this was just 4 years ago. Also, a '61 Ampeg B12 Portaflex for $75.00, It's a toss-up!

  4. I think I might have everybody beat, with not one, but two total steals:

    1. I found a dirty, dusty 1972 Fender Super Reverb loaded with four awesome old James B. Lansing speakers, leaned up against a trash dumpster. Took it home, pulled a couple of bird's nests out of the cabinet, plugged it in, and it didn't work. Pulled the head out, noticed that the ground wire had come loose (!!!), screwed it in, put it back together, and had one of the most awesome sounding amps I have ever heard. After I cleaned it up, it looked awesome too. Total investment, $0.

    2. I just purchased a natural finish, homemade, fretless jazz bass for $30, sans electrics. Bought a set of Fender Custom '60s pickups for $50, three pots, some wire, and a pickguard for $20. After finally getting all the parts, and getting it wired up, it is one of the best sounding and best playing basses in my experience. Total investment, $100.

There are others, but these two are just too good.

    Peace,
    Josh

  5. Going the other way . . .

The most foolish deal I made was when I sold a set of vintage DiMarzio Jazz PAF pickups. $12. oops. as was quoted to me "tone to the bone man".

But it's ok, they were in a box of working/non-working pickups I bought for $35. I ended up selling them piecemeal for well over $200. And I still have an Ibanez PJ set left over!

Also: Roscoe LG2005 $1K and Eden WT 400 in SKB case for $400.

  6. recently I scored a Sunn Sceptre tube head for $125 from here @ TB

In the past I grabbed a Carvin LB75 (89 or 90 it had pole pieces in the pickups) for $300. Traded it even within 2 weeks for a 74 P bass... traded the P for and AMP BH-260 + $350

  7. The homemade jazz I got had DiMarzio PAF P-bass pickups in the neck position, that I took out when I put the jazz pickups in. Are these things worth anything?

    Thanks,
    Josh

I traded a 90 mhz Pentium I computer for my Black MIJ Jazz w/EMGs a few years ago.
At the time it was probably a good deal for the guy, but I was looking ahead. Six months later the bass was worth more than the computer. That computer is now completely worthless, but the Jazz is still going strong!

(anyone want to trade some gear for a nice Pentium III?...he he)

My 1971 P-bass, all original in a hardshell case for $395. I bought it about 12 years ago!

    :^)~

  13. My dad picked up an old acoustic in a case at the local junk shop. It was an old Framus western-style guitar that was obviously beat to hell, divots in the frets deep enough that you couldnt even bend the strings, and so much playing wear that the fretboard had finder grooves... but we only gave a buck for it.

The nice part was that it had a vintage DeArmond acoustic pickup sitting in it that still worked. I see them on eBay quite often for upwards of $120 in the same condition.:D

    Peace.

some incredible deals! Serioulsy, a 535 for 200?

Where did you guys get some of these deals?

  15. A dark turn on the subject...

I sold my 1989 Paul Reed Smith Bass to a guy for 500 back in 1991. Limited run on the basses back then, only made a few thousand, always regretted that cash flow event.

  16. Oh, holy Jeebus! I bow before Incubass, overlord of deals.

(As posted before) I bought what is arguably the most prized bass of them all.
12/14/02 I bought an original 1962 Precision for $147 from and unsuspecting pawn shop.

Thank you boognish:) . In response to how do we find these deals, Me, I'm mexican so I'll spend 40 hours straight looking for something I want even if I can get it just for $5 somewhere else. Also go "yard saleing" (I dunno how you would spell what I want to but you get the point). Go look for yard sales, I almost bought a Gibson acoustic for $10. Too bad the poor thing had more holes than it did wood.:( :( :([IMG]
