Whats the nicest bass you gig with?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by aaronhutson, Jan 9, 2012.

  1. Well, as I have seen, many TBers own very VERY nice and expensive basses. Some of which that are just too nice to gig with in a practical situation. So I got to wondering.

What is the nicest bass YOU gig with? Is it your nicest bass? If not, is it one of your crappy basses?

    Pics are always welcome too!

I personally dont own any gear at the moment that I wouldnt gig with. I wouldnt use my wish at every gig, only calm contemporary ones. But other than that, my other basses I am fine with gigging.

  4. What's the point of owning an expensive bass, if you can't show it off to the one or two people in the audience who knows or cares?

All of them. I've gigged everything from this 1976 P Bass:

    To this Dingwall ABI Elite:

(I'm not actually all that small at 5'8, there's just something in the angle of that picture that makes the bass look HUGE!)

    To my Rickenbacker 4003:

If I would gig, I'd do it with my Spector Forte 4!!:bassist:
  13. I'm maybe in a minority as I gig with all my bass guitars.
  14. Subjective. Your gigging situation could be vastly different from that of another TBer and even then the idea of what is "practical" and what is not, at least in this case, is open to interpretation.
  15. It's pretty much been the trusty Fender P for the last 5 or 6 years, don't see myself changing anytime soon. I'm not sure why I would buy something that I didn't plan to gig with, isn't that the point?

  16. Is that a matte black finish on that P-bass? It looks awesome!

No, standard black gloss. Just worn a bit.
  18. Lets see...I've played live with everything from:
    MIM Fender P
    My irreplaceable Fender Jaguar
my late 80's Kramer (That I sold)
    to my Rickenbacker
    and my Alembic!

I"m trying to think of what bass I've never gigged with...I guess it's my wishbasses. Not that I wouldn't, I just haven't had a situation for them and they still need some work. Otherwise, I've gigged with them all. Alembic, Modulus, Ken Smith etc. I've even gigged in dive bars with them. But quite frankly that tends to make me paranoid what with wandering drunks and being scared that when you come out of the restroom it won't be there.

So to be easier on myself I got several SX bar basses. Seemed like a solution at the time. But once I modded them, I started to love them! And then the kick in the butt is that mine are all old headstock models which you can't get now! And so I'm back to worrying about my "vintage" bar basses! You can't win. And anyway, if the gig called for my Alembic or something, I'd still take it. It's worth some money, but it's still only a bass.
