Sounds bloody awful to me.

 

100% synth. Notice how the attack of the note is slow, and delayed behind his finger movement on the fretboard? He's almost certainly using some device which takes the signal of his bass and converts the voltage and frequency levels of it into control voltages or control data for triggering the synth. There are both analog and digital devices/systems which can do this. It could be a Whammy but the attack is just so slow that I doubt it, unless it's in conjunction with another device that alters the envelope.

 

If your band opened up for them, you should've just asked the guy!

 

Bongo, it looked to me like he was controlling some sort of expression pedal. Did my eyes mislead me?

 

I didn't watch the whole thing... Anyway I haven't used the guitar Whammy, and was not aware of the slow attack. So I was probably mistaken.

 

If you look later in the video you can see his foot perched on a volume pedal.

 

If he wanted a violin why didn't he just buy one.

Probably because it's a completely different instrument than the one he's spent years learning to play as well as he does? Maybe?

I think it could be a whammy, but he is using a volume pedal with it.

I think it sounds too sweet (candy type of sweet) to be a whammy, but that could be fixed with EQing, and I do hear some of the whammy brand glitchyness
