What tune are you currently jammin to?
Y'know, something you use for warmup or a tune with a cool lick you love to play, or one that lets you experiment. What do you cue up when you want to just have fun?

    Never heard that tune...
Oh, so sorry - don't want to break the rules.
(Didn't see a more appropriate forum than basses.)
    What do you suggest?

  6. Miscellaneous is a good place when you can't think of an appropriate forum, but the topic is still bass/music-related.

As for the question, I like to warm up with some Primus/Claypool or Vic Wooten stuff. It's a lot more complex than the stuff I play with a band, so its like when you see baseball players with the weights on their bats while warming up before they go to the plate. When you get to the real deal and do something easier, it's a piece of cake. Plus, it's just really fun and groovy.

    Sure you weren't!
It's ok, tho... I understand the need for rules and order and the such. I mean where would we be if we all played in another key. We need harmony here, dammit!

Anyway, do I delete this thread and start one in misc?
Or, is there a way to slide it on over there?

I like to play "Pulling Teeth" by Metallica. It's basically a huge bass solo, but it's fn to warm up with.

I will usually play the riff from "Super Freak" hence the nickname "Hammer" :bassist:
  10. I LOVE playing The Chicken (Jaco). I really just improvise over the chord pattern and use it to warm up. It's fun to play and there's TONS of room to mess around with.

Jam albums I keep coming back to:

Pat Travers Band: "Go For What You Know (Live!)"
    Red Hot Chili Peppers: "Californication"
    Rush: "Moving Pictures"
Crack the Sky: "Crack Attic: Best Of"

...and I have a bunch of self-made compilation discs of cover songs my bands play. Mostly Motown stuff.

I'm sure a moderator will move this thread to an appropriate forum.

I play the bassline from "Low Rider" by War quite a bit when I'm warming up. Pretty much just a major scale, but fun. . .

    - some of the bassline from "Flashlight"
    - part of RHCP's "All around the world"
    - famous cartoon theme-song melodies, like Spiderman, the Flintstones, etc.
    - basslines that I wrote in the last band I was in
