Currently I got some serious GAS for a Stingray 5.
Just out of couriosity: What's your favorite Stingray/ Stingray 5 Body-Neck-Pickguard color combination? And do you like it with a matching headstock?

You can check out some options at:Stingray5Colors

I refuse to post a poll because there are about 1152 possible combinations.

BTW: Do you know where I can find a highresolution pic of a Stingray 5 in order to use it as a desktop backround?

When Ernie Ball decides to offer standard spacing (as opposed to narrow) on the Ray 5 I will probably buy one in Burnt Apple with a black guard, rosewood board. I also like the blueburst (no longer offered I don't think) with white guard and maple, and bassic black [sic] is always cool.

It do think the huge pickguard is disappointing... so much of the finish goes to waste, especially on bursts. If it was a 'Ray 4, I'd get the burnt apple and buy a transparent guard. But I hate naked guts so a clear guard would not be an option for the 'Ray 5.

The MM site has a suggestions link. I suggested a no pick guard option with figured maple tops. Maybe if they get enough of those suggestions they will offer it. I hope

My Stingray 5 is Pearl Platinum with a black pickguard, rosewood fingerboard, and matching headstock. I'm not a big fan of matching headstocks but it looks alright on my ray5. I have only seen one other Stingray in Pearl Platinum and it was a Ray4, I wonder if they still offer that color...

    Wow, that's some great response.

What is the difference between the black and the abalone colored pickguards? Abalone looks just like black and isn't even mentioned in my dictionary.
I actually learned to like the pickguard and they don't conflict with my taste since I don't like burst finishes anyway, so it does not really cover anything.
I am not to sure which one I would get but currently I seem to tend towards the natural one with a maple neck and one of the black-type pickguards (black, abalone or black pearloid ). That way I also don't have to worry about getting a matching headstock or not.

  9. I pretty much like mine... Stingray 4, 2 band EQ, Translucent Red (don't know if that is the correct name for it), white pickguard.

btw. that "build a guitar" option on the Ernie Ball page really rules!

  10. My sterling is black with a black pickguard, rosewood board and matching (you guessed it) black headstock. Class baby Class.

For a MMSR 5, my favourite color combination is all black (body + pickguard) with a maple neck. Same as the one Nino purchased recently. Well, that's because I don't like the shape of the pickguard that much. So black on black somewhat "hides" the shape of the pickguard.

For a MMSR 4, I love natural w/maple fingerboard and black pickguard, as well as sunburst, with any fingerboard and black or white pickguard.

    All the best,

I like Nino-Brown's favorite combination, although I eventually changed the pickguard to tortoise shell. I sold the bass and it's now someone else's favorite combination.

    Black Beauties.

Black, Black Picguard, matching Black headstock, black hardware*, w/ Rosewood fretboard.

*You usually have Crome tuners, sometimes black, but rarely see them w/ black bridges, which are aftermarket mods...I've only seen one completely black. They're specfreakingtacular.

Vintage sunburst with tortoise shell pickguard and rosewood neck. Oh ya, chrome hardware including knobs (SR-5).
She looks like a vintage 60's Fender. But sounds a whole lot better!
    Cheers,

  19. Just like the one I'm playing on the left there
