i'm seeing all these what were your first 3 basses, what are your 3 newest basses type of threads, and i thought i'd talk about what's REALLY important top many of us on talk bass - your NEXT bass or what are the two basses you're choosing between? i'm torn between 2 seafoam green fender beauties, both MiM - a mustang and a Fender Special Edition Deluxe PJ Bass Sea Foam Pearl. i regretted selling my mustang, and unlike a lot of people, i love the sound of the mustang pickups, and fender says i can't buy new ones from them. my plan after i couldn't buy the pickups new was to buy used mustang pickups and put them in another bass - i actually bought the bass to put them in, but both sets i bought had problems, so i'm thinking of buying an entire mustang to replace the one i sold. the other one is the PJ bass i tried in store and it blew me away. it had a gloss neck, not as versatile as one that isn't gloss, but very nice, and sounded wonderful. since i can't budget for both basses, i'm torn, but i expect get one of them. what's YOUR next bass going to be or what are the two contenders?
P bass. Going back to a P bass. Just too perfect for one of my current projects. Been looking for a sound and subconsciously knew it was a P bass. Going to do a mod shop so I can get a Sienna burst with the C to D taper neck. Been P bass free around two years now (I think ) Between your two choices... I've played both. The SE deluxe P is a nice bass. Those Mustangs though are really something special. IMO of course.
P bass with a Jazz neck. Most likely Fender parts, but I may luck out and find a peavey fury. Lakland 44-64 is probably out of reach budget wise. my amp will most likely get upgraded first, but it's fun to dream!
Gig money this year goes to...... I really like the SE guitar that I have, & I’ve heard good things about the Kestrels.
Relic-d olympic white with painted headstock, old style tort, P (or PJ) with a rosewood Jazz neck, Wilde pickup by Bill Lawrence, built-in HPF, Gotoh tuners, hm bridge, bridge ashtray only,. Hofner Beatle Bass, vintage Paisley Telebass
Hopefully within the year. Fender American professional precision bass with a black pickguard. And yes left handed !!
I really should go and get this original Yamaha “Broad Bass 2000” I know of. I’d be fulfilling a childhood fantasy...
The only thing that is on my radar would be another custom build that would be a fretless version of this bass (exact same specs). Other than that, I don't want/need anything I don't already have. Took me awhile to get to this spot...
About the only two basses I’d still consider buying at this point are a Wal Mark 1 or a fireglo Ric with checkerboard binding. Both are totally outside my budget range so fat chance of either happening. Which is fine. I’ve since managed to acquire everything else on my bucket list. And some of them I’ve even kept!
A 5er. I'm deciding whether to go budget (Sire V3), premium (EBMM Stingray 5H), or used (Warwick Thumb Bolt On). If the economy goes down the tubes it may be a bit of a wait.
In January 2019, I initiated 2 basses. Spector NS-6H2 which could be finished sometime late June / early July. Carl Thompson Semi-Frills Fretless 6. Estimating from a few TBers’ builds, I’ve taken note that their builds have taken in excess of a year. That’s ok. I’ve always wanted one. I figured if I don’t act now, I may never make it happen. I’m married and to keep my wife’s blood pressure relatively low, I try to keep my bass purchases to 2 per year. (Umm... but the CT won’t be finished until 2020, so I wonder if I could squeeze in a 3rd bass this year?)
I'd like another feels bass. I'm torn between a thumb and a dolphin though. Honestly though, I think my next great purchase will be a classical guitar.
A Dingwall Z3. I’ve checked these out at the NAMM show a couple of times and they feel perfect in my hands. The fanned frets felt instantly comfortable and the low B felt like it had some authority to it.
