When to change strings?

    i've been playing the same bass for a year now and haven't yet done my first string change. how can i tell if it does in fact need to be changed and do you have any tips on the changing itself?

    You can do a search and find all the answers for this, but I'll go ahead and give you some tips.
    When the strings have rust and dirty spots that you can actually see, it is time to change them. If the strings make a nice dead,flat sound, change them, unless you want that sound.If they can't stay in tune, change.

    As for the actual string changing, it depends on what kind of bridge you have.
