hey, my bass has visible scratches (little grooves) in a bunch of the frets from my strings. the roundness of the fret kinda levels of where the string is... i assume this is contributing to quite a bit of fret buzz, and i want it stopped... would getting my frets re-crowned be a good idea, or refretting etc? I only have one main bass so i'll just deal with the buzz until i can buy another one since i need it for gigs etc, but what should i do about it?
You can usually get two, maybe three fret levels before a refret. Go ahead and get them re-crowned. It will actually lower the action and be nicer to play. Some guys grid down the frets on new instruments for low action (like Jeff Berlin).
