I got a chance to play one of these recently. I would have bought it on the spot if he would have sold it to me. It was one of the better amps I have ever played through. But they haven't made that in like 12 or 15 years. The good news is that means they should go for cheap. The bad news is I can't find one.

I did find a pair of bh260's. Other than the difference in output power, how similar are they?

    He'p me! He'p me!

    edites for really bad spelling

The BH260 is a much lower power rated amp than the BH420. watch eBay, you can sometimes find one in the $350 range. also look for the Gibson GB440, virtually the same amp.

I own both the 420 and 260. Diffs:

    1. Power: 260 is 260 watts into 4 ohms, the 420 is 400 watts into 4 ohms. This is not a BIG difference, about 2dB in max output level.

    2. EQ: 260 has only 3 midbands, 420 has 4. Rest of EQ is the same.

    3. Crossover: on 420, you can vary the frequency the 260 is fixed (at about 150 Hz I think)

    4. Volume controls: 420 has independent gain and master, 260 has single volume control

    5. Limiter: 420 has one, 260 does not

The two amps sound the same to me. If you liked the 420, you will like the 260 (unless you really need the limiter).
