  2. Because Photobucket has chosen to in effect "take down" everyone's photos (unless you pay them), we have extended post edit time in the Luthier's Corner to UNLIMITED.  If you used photobucket and happen to still have your images of builds, you can go back and fix as many of your posts as far back as you wish.

Note that TalkBass will host unlimited attachments for you, all the time, for free ;)  Just hit that "Upload a File" button.  You are also free to use our Media Gallery if you want a place to create albums, organize photos, etc :)

Where do I begin?

Discussion in 'Luthier's Corner' started by mebusdriver, Feb 5, 2003.

  1. I'm 18 and more than interested in the construction of basses. One of my dreams is to create a large arsenal of personally built basses to my specifications and possibly others. My question is directed to the luthiers and succesful owners of in the bass manufactuiring world. Where would I begin my search? Is there anywhere I can acquire formal training or do I need to just start messing around and reading books? I want to do this very bad so any true answer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Reading books is a good start.
Try the search fnction here and you'll find much info for starters.

Also, you can check the MIMF it's a great ressource!

    Read SEVERAL books.
Make SEVERAL designs, paper and perhaps plywood, and think "Why does this not look good?".
Play all basses you can get your hands on.

Then you can start to make some real tries.

And of course, there are some great shools. There's one in Oslo, Noway, and one on Mallorca, Spain....
