So I am a Jazz student at a conservatory in Chicago. I'm in my third year, and after I leave this school I want to continue my education. I have fallen in love with Afro-Cuban Music, but I have no idea where I can concentrate my study with this music. I believe that Eddie Gomez is on faculty at the conservatory in San Juan, which would be great. Does anyone know of other universities where I can focus on Afro-Cuban/Caribbean music?

I have no issue relocating. I will go anywhere if it's worth the education.

I was gonna say Rosetta Stone... oops, wrong Latin! :)
  3. Not to sound too flippant, but somewhere with a large Latin population (especially Cuban) like south Florida? I'd imagine that NYC probably has a vibrant Latin music scene as well.

In the meantime, listen to and study such bassists as Cachao.

Is it possible to get a student visa to Cuba? I mean, under the sponsorship of a musical organization, it might be an awesome experience.
