which 1 of these 4 designs would you pick?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by wotnwhy, Aug 12, 2003.

  1. at the moment i'm planning out my second bass (the 1st is nearly done). it's going to be a 5-string fretless hollow body single cut. i've decided on the body and headstock shape, but i've got 4 different designs for the sound holes, and i can't pick, so

if this was to be you bass, which one would YOU choose?

  2. I like the one on the bottom.

Considering the placement of controls, I'd say #4 is the only choice.

#3 reminds me of Washburn Acoustic Guitar Bass
  9. in answear to the remark about controlls,

what you see in the picks is what the bass will look like, no magnetick p'ups (just piezo bridge), no controlls (possibly a volume just below or behind the bridge).

oh, and about the washburn bass remark, yeah, it does resemble it, thats where i stole the idea from

    Definitely #4, "Def, Definitely #4".

Go with a volume control. You will be glad you did! Perhaps you could place it on the side of the Bass (where most Acoustic/Electric controls are located).

    Just a thought.

Good luck. Looks like a sweet design.

Personally I think #2 looks great since you won't have controls.
  12. If you're not going to need to put controls on it, the 1st and 3rd look cool..

the 2nd looks horrible, and the 4th.. well..it's just not my type.
  13. ok, sorry, should have been a bit more clear earlier.

i am still undecided on what to go for electronics wise (active, passive, just volume) but whatever i go for, it wont be going on the front of the bass, with the possible exeption of the volume controll.

  14. Number 1 and number 4, 2 and 3 just look stupid.

I think #4 suits your idea the best. Very hollow body, single cut style.

    I changed it a bit....this is what I'd do.

  17. Personally i REALLY like #4 the best... but im a big fan of those classic f-holes. The rest looks great, though! :D

Or you could leave it solid top like this

Heres how Chris Benavente ran the holes on my Chambered.

  20. I like number 4 the most.

The holes just seem less intrusive and more flowy
