I want to get a Lakland 55-02 deluxe. (love that maple top)
Haven't seen many, so....... Do I get the natural maple top
with rosewood board, or cherryburst maple/rosewood, or
sunburst maple/rosewood. Which looks nicest? HELP ME!

I would say cherryburst or natural, mostly because I easily get annoyed with how visible scratches are on black basses...

    I'd like either Natural/Rosewood, or Cherryburst/Maple.

Both look really nice. I've got a natural 55-01 Deluxe.

I wish I could see some examples of cherryburst/rosewood.
I didn't think about scratches showing on the 3 tone burst,
    I haven't had a black bass......ever. I'm a little worried in
that I've seen pictures of a few natural maple tops with a
gap on the edge of the veneer where you see the ash
body all around the edges. But I think the natural maple
top with a rosewood board would look cool. I just don't know.

Make that 3 minds thinking a like. I've owned several versions of the 55-02 deluxe. My favorite by far (sonically as well), has been Natural Quilt Maple Top with Rosewood Fretboard. Noticably different sound and feel than the maple boarded one.

    My 2 cents.

  13. OK,

I recently started a thread on my big '0' birthday present from my wife - she wants me to have another bass!! (She is also currently moaning about how much I'm gigging - I think she hasn't completely thought this through)

I'm an Aussie in Melbourne so I had originally decided on an Ibanez BTB1205e, but I 'm now heading to Orlando in June and so have extended the search to a Fender US Jazz Deluxe. Contacted Bass Central and they have also recommended looking at the Lakland 55-02 Deluxe as similar in nature to my other choices.

Seeing this thread has really got me thinking as I loved the cherry/maple look, but the natural/rosewood look would be good too.

So... help me decide! Why would I choose Lakland over the others? Anyone able to record the sound so I can compare would be great - I haven't seen many over here in Aus (although I saw the Lakland for sale in the sig - how much?)
  14. Get to the bass centre in south melbourne dude! Play one and see what the hype is about! Guy will stitch you up with an amazing deal (for us Aussies) on a 55-02. Give Guy an email at info@basscentre.com.au he'll answer ANY questions you have!
