i am buying a gibson thunderbird

i don't know much about what sort of amp would go good with it

i tested out a trace elliot with it and it was sweeet.

anyone got an idea that could work better?

  2. It would help if you posted what music you are likely to be playing, your price range and how bigger places you will be playing. There is no set amp, its really comes down to personal preference.

  4. go to a guitar store and test them out, stay away from rigs with aluminum cones. You don't need a really powerful amp if your playing small gigs. I have an Ampeg 4x10 its good for smallish venues, its better to go bigger in case you play a bigger a venue, especially if price isn't a concern, for now stick with between 300-500w you really shouldn't need more power then that, if you find yourself playing bigger venues then invest in a 1250w or something and maybe a second cab if you need to fill a concert hall or something.

A Trace head will tend to bring out what little high-end a Thunderbird has. I've gotten a great growl from that combo. I also like the T-bird through Ampeg heads. Big, deep sound. Sadly, the T-bird I used was borrowed, so I can't try it out any more.
