Ok, tough choice. I'm only playing for an hour tomorrow night. We are the opening act. We are playing old British punk: Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Damned. We also play some a few more recent bands like Green Day.

I've been taking my Franken-jazz to practices and with the MM bridge pup and J Retro preamp, it does it all. On the other hand, I just love my '78 P and it looks the part. I've got pics of both. Tell me what you think.

I voted for your '78 P. The P has a great sound for Punk IMO. Take your Franken-Jazz as a backup or for just in case....

    Have a great gig!

Yep, definitely will be bringing both. Just having a hard time to decide which to play. With only 1 hour to play, I don't think I'll be wasting time switching instruments.

  5. That Jazz looks killer but a P just can't do wrong for good old punk. Play the P.

Your frankenjazz is cool, but I absolutely ADORE your Precision! That's my favorite P-bass config: black/black/maple, and the honey-colored neck is just fantastic.

You said Clash: gotta go with the bass on "London's Calling"! Just don't imitate the cover photo. :p

Thanks for the kind words. I bought that P this last winter from a fellow online bassist that lives in the area here. It is a totally cool bass that I hear has seen action in CBGBs. I did play it at the last gig that I did with this band.

Come to think of it, the only Clash we have on the set list for tomorrow night is "Complete Control." I would like to get some more Clash into our song list. Now that I think about it, the band that we have the most tunes from is the Ramones.

Yea, I think between the talk here and my own biases, the P is probably going to get the stage time.

As much as you love Franken-Jazz, you gotta use the right tool for the job.

Quick update: Played the P for the entire hour set. I must say it looked and sounded the part. It also always feels so good when I wear that bass. If you have never owned an old P, all I can say is that there is something magical about them. I don't know what it is, but they just feel right.

Thanks to everyone that helped sway in the direction that I knew I needed to go.
