    - 4 string
    - Two soap bars (Barts, EMGs, etc.)
    - High quality/boutique
    - Jazz neck, but not uber-thin ala Pedulla Rapture
    - 34 inches
    - Dots on the neck
    - 21/22 frets
    - no fanned frets
    - trad or quasi-trad looks (nothing too "unique")

    I couldn't think of much...

Lakland 44-01, but that's not really boutique...

  2. Well, it sounds to me like an F-Bass BN4 except the scale is 34.5 and you'll have to order the dots.

I'm sure Nino Valenti or perhaps Chris Benavente could build you something along those lines.

Sadowsky Modern 4 has everything you mentioned other than having 24 frets. I'm sure roger would make you a Vintage style 4 string with the soapbar pickups. :bassist:

And very nice they would be, I'm sure....curious that there isn't something already hanging on the wall somewhere that would fit these very ho-hum requirements.

I didn't realize the BN4 was 34.5", although I knew the BN5 was. I think you're right though - one would have to special order dots.

Yeah, but you're on exactly the right track - if it had 22 frets and one fewer string it would be "bingo"...

Wait a minute - there is a Sadowsky Modern 4? As in the counterpart to the Modern 5?

    Where, when, how?

    Link?

Good call - I've been hearing good things about Nino's work.

I'm not ready to buy yet, but I'm playing something with a MM pickup when I really prefer two soaps so it made me wonder out loud - what is out there that fits the criteria?

Look at the Yamaha BB1500. You'd swear it was a Jazz at first glance. I don't think they're made anymore. I just got one used at our local GC a month ago and love it.

My bad! I didn't realize those didn't come in 4s :meh:

Worth a phone call anyway. Or get Nino to make you a bass.
