I just got a V4BH recently and I am looking for a big cab for this amp. Aguilar 412 seems to be an option but I might go the Bergantino way. As I live in Europe, it is almost impossible to play one of these cabs before buying. So I am trying to decide between the NV412 and the NV610. I like the sound of my Aguilar GS212 and 112s. The Ampeg 810 is not bad either. It will be used in a rock environment. What would you recommend? Any first hand experience?
You will be happy with either, but since you like the sound of 12's, go with the NV412. I own all three, and it is my favorite.
The NV610 is the Ampeg killer. My friend has one and we've run SVT's into and it kills. We've run the Peavey VB-2 into it and it just sounds great. I've never heard the NV412 but I have heard the NV215. I definitely prefer the NV610 with the tube head.
I use (I say use I mean used since it's currently got blown drivers...) an NV215 for rock and I think it's something it's severely underestimated for. Really nice deep transparent sound with enough cutting mids if you really need them. Not heard either of the other cabs to be honest but I'm a fan of a pretty deep undriven solid state rock sound. When I used it with an SVT classic I didn't really like the sound of it too much, there are plenty of people that use Ampegs with NV215s and seem to be very happy with the results though.
I absolutely love the sound of a V4BH through a pair of 15's. Just something indescribable about that sound. Very fat, warm, big and round. Lottsa thump.
I recently bought the Berg NV412. Played it out on gigs with a 72 SVT and a Mesa Walkabout head. Sounds great with both but of course the SVT scares me, the tone it gets. I play mainly classic rock, blues and a little R&B with some funk thrown in for good measure. All the talk about this type of setup is better for this type of music to me is rubbish. You can dial in almost any tone with a SVT. Great tone goes with any type of music in my oppinion.
I have A 75 SVT and Berg NV610 and NV215 Have not gotten the 412 yet. As far as what works betyter with the SVT it depends on what you are going for tone wise. Want the old SVT/810 Midrangy and some decent lows sound then 610 is the ticket. If you want Heavier bottom with good Mids and Decent highs then NV 215 is the ticket. Either way you can't lose and 212's are the best of both worlds imho so the NV 412 should kill with that head but don't expect Super loud sound levels you are only dealing with 100 watts.
I've got a 70-72 blueline and am also trying to decide between the nv610, 215 or 412. I have (2) 4ohm ampeg 1510E's now that I love with it, so I'm edging towards the 215 or 412 myself. I'm also looking at the aguilar 412 as well, just too many options!
Tube Amps like sealed cabs much more than ported more control of the speakers in the low end much tighter sound. I am not saying tubes don't work with or sound good with ported cabs just to my ear(IMHO)they tend to work better with and sound tighter with sealed cabs
