I'm trying to choose a cab setup. Which would rather have... 270W @ 4 Ohms into one 4 Ohm 212 cab. 340W @ 2.6 Ohms into one 4 Ohm 112 cab + one 8 Ohm 210 cab. Both choices are with the same head. The second choice gives higher wattage, but the head will run hotter, causing faster wear & tear. The amp will run at 2.6 Ohms per manufacturer's specs. The cabs can handle the wattage in both situations. The 212 may be a little underpowered at 270W. It's rated at 900W. The 112 is rated at 500W. Thanks for your help with my buying decision!
The second setup might be a little wierd because you'd be putting twice as much power into the 112 than the 210.
112 w/ 210 easier to carry. I'm very consious of that now that my back went out! weeks of doctor visits, ice, stretching I moved my cabs for the first time in a MONTH! aggie gs-112s.
OK, if your'e unable to A/B them you're probably safer going with the 2x12"'s. Mixing cabs can get a little wierd sometimes. Can you be more specific on what brand/models you're looking at?
Head: SWR Workingman's 300 270W @ 4 Ohm 340W @ 2.6 Ohm Cabs: Hartke 210 HP, 8 Ohms, 150W Avatar CB112H, 4 Ohms, 500W (2.6 Ohms together) OR Avatar B212, 4 Ohm, 900W
Yes, I would be more concerned about the cabs than the 70 watts. I just don't think the Avatar and the Hartke would be a good match.
270 watts should be plenty of power unless you're doing big outdoor venues. And the 2x12 will probably do you better than the other setup, it'll give you more bottom end which is what you really need in a live situation. I've heard good things about the Avatar cabs, and I'd stay away from the Hartke speakers.
