Ok so I am getting a 2nd project off the ground and I need a cab. At the very least a real good rehearsal cab. My primary gig cab is a (newer but still real wood and the new updated drivers) Ampeg SVT vintage RI 810. I've always been a 810 guy. Or maybe a Mesa PH guy.

There is nothing local here on TB or Ebay so im down to Craigslist. Here are my options so far:

    1) Emperor 610. (older one, sealed cab) $500 firm. 30 min away

    2) Peavey Tour Series 810, mint. $500 firm. bout hour and 45 min drive.

    3) Ampeg 410 HLF $300. Good shape. at least 2.5 hrs away

    4) Basson 810 (2000w cab) $650. (more than I want to spend right now) 2hrs away.

    These are the current prospects.

    EDIT: UPDATE

enter two more cabs I found.

Genz Benz 610T XB2. $450 . 90 min away. (an easy straight drive too.

Ampeg 810. $550. FInally found one about 50 minutes away. Its in the music store of the cat I bought my first bass off of 24 years ago. Couple dings, played in a church.
    Its USA model pre korea.

Can't swing a dead cat without hitting a used Ampeg 810 for $500.

I'd go with the AMpeg 410

  4. 2 and 3 are the only REAL choices there. Might I suggest looking at the used section of Guitar Center with the ship to local store option?

  5. Agree with Floyd, but from your list I'd go with the Ampeg 410hlf..

Oh yes.....there are a bunch of ampeg 810's there too. But they are either owned by delusional people who think $800-900 is a good price for a used 810 or they are all $500 but in the chip board construction/crappy speaker years.
I have had vintage ampeg, 90's, early 2000's and my new VR. While they all seemed to sound good at the time, in hind sight nothing was as good as my new VR.

I don't have a problem with peavey's high end stuff at all but I know with the ported cab I will either love it or hate it to death. But I wont figure it out til I get home then I will have a hell of a time unloading it. You know how it goes:rollno:

I'm shocked, no love for the emperor?

Personally I love my crappy speakered 2006, nevertheless, I see Vietnampeg 810s for around $500 all the time.

Like I said.... they all sounded good while I owned them but the new one is better to my ears.
If there were one close enough to just go play through I would do it. But I don't want to drive 2 hrs for a possible dud.

B-string, I get what you are saying. I heard great stuff about guitar cabs but that doesn't do any of us any good.

  12. Yes guitar cabs are EASY!

  13. Don't know about Emperor. Have had a PV 210 and I imagine the 810 is tough and decent sounding. I have had two Basson cabs they were horrible and failed. My main cab is an SVT410HLF love it. The PR 410 HLF is even better. The other HLF 410 (BE?)- not so hot to me

I'd say the HLF. Its a good sized cab. Tons of low end for a 410. If its more for rehearsal, there's not much need for much more. Even for playing out, those are nice.

Isn't that Basson like 200+ pounds? If you decide to make the drive might want to bring a friend.

Its definatley going to be down to one of these two. The ampeg is close enough and was definitely not abused. The GB I have read nothing but positive about but never played through one.

  19. Winner IMHO

Yeah I think I am leaning this way too. I have heard nothing but good about the bigger GB ported cabs. If my new project decides on anything lower than drop c# it might come in handy.

    Any other experienced opinions?
