Which connection is best?

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by reedo35, Jan 25, 2001.

  1. OK, this may be a dumb question, but I'm not really a gear-head and I would like to know. I have a Bag End S15-X-D
speaker that has 1/4, Banana Plug, and neutrik speaker connectors on it.Which is the best to use and what is the difference? (Note: The amps I am using are an AI Clarus amp,Neutrik connectors only, and an SWR 500 with both 1/4 and banana plugs. Thanks in advance for any input (no pun intended!) :)

Both banana and speakon connectors are superior to 1/4" jacks because they allow for a larger contact surface with the male and female parts of the connection.Speakon, although more expensive,is superior to banana in that it's a locking connection like XLR mic cables. Why is the larger surface a good thing, you ask? It transmits the current more efficiently to the drivers.
