which contrast laminate to use?

    i'm going to be building a bass with most likely an alder body and a flame maple or goncalo alves top. what type of wood is typically used for body laminates (like the thin black lines on the edge?).

    I think the thin black lines are usually not wood, because it makes a cleaner line. I forget what material they are made of but this has been covered in the lutheirs forum.

    Black laminates are often dyed black and seem too black and unnatural to me. Purpleheart or walnut is nice for a subtler effect if you use the maple top. Wenge is a good choice for a natural black and would work nice with the goncalo alves. I'm assuming you're talking about a thin veneer here.
