Which ext. cabinet for a Bassman 400 Pro

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by phillm47, Sep 15, 2005.

  1. Which extention speaker cabinet would you choose for a Fender Bassman 400 Pro 2x10 combo?

In the running (and in my price range):

    Avatar 2x12 NEO (4 or 8 ohm)
Avatar 115H NEO or Kappa Pro

Fender claims this combo can run at a 2 ohm load. The Fender 115 Pro extention cabinet made for this combo is listed at 4 ohms. This cabinet is $400.00 and, IMO, seems over priced for what it is.

I like the idea of the 4 ohm 2x12 NEO. Same ohm rating as the Fender cabinet, more speaker area, and not too heavy. Plus, if I pick up a bass head only in the future it could work as a one cabinet solution for medium gigs.

FWIW I play passive Fenders - moslty a jazz these days, but sometimes a precision. Funk, blues and classic rock mostly. I really like the deep punchy sound of the 400 Pro combo, especially after the speakers were changed out with Eminence Deltalites NEOs. Having to "upgrade" the speakers in my combo amp after blowing one of the OEM ones one of the reasons I'm shying away for the Fender extention cabinet.

    Opinions? Thanks folks!
