Which flats for a Fretless Precision?

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by Rockin John, Oct 1, 2005.

  1. I've recently become the proud owner of a late 1970s Fender Precison fretless. :D :hyper: :D

I'd like to ask guys on the board what they'd recommend for a set of flats, and why that recommendation was made.

I presume the bass originally had Fender flats (set on order) but currently has Rotosound Jazz 77s fitted.

I've used Roto 88s black nylon and Roto 77s before (on my Fender Jazz 5 fretted) and TI 344 on a Yamaha RBX 270: I liked both.

I tend towards a jazz / blues feel.

    Thanks V much.

    D'addario Chromes.

They have a nice feel, and IMHO, they really seem to sing on a fretless bass.

Go for Fender 9050's. I've got them on my MIM jazz-turned-fretless and they moan nicely!
