    Hi everyone,

I'm really curious to see what your opinion is on which flats sound best on an old 'ray.

On my P i'm really used to TI flats, but maybe some of you have had more experience using different brands. (I can imagine loosing a little to much of the character using TI flats). My main reference tonewise is Bernard Edwards with chic.

    Thanks!

(PS I did do a search, but couldn't find a real related topic, only flats vs rounds)

If I recall, Edwards used the strings that came on the Ray when he got it, and didn't change them. At that time, Stingrays would have come with GHS Precision Flats, or maybe GHS Brite Flats, which are a half-round string.

I have tried both of those on a Ray, and liked them both quite a bit. More overtones with the Brite Flats, more fundamental and thump with the flats.

  3. Give D'Addario Chromes a try. They have a lot of growl and top end for the first week and a half. After that, they mellow out and just keep sounding better and better. Good luck!

  6. I use Chromes and am satisfied. Still with the MM growl, with a clean and defined sound. I recommend!
