Which fuzz is this?

  1. Looking to find a fuzz that's nice n chunky like the bassist of this band uses:

  2. To get my fuzz tone chunky what I do is use a big muff with the tone knob at about 3 o clock and the sustain at 12 o clock, running into my bassballs. I keep the bassballs set very very low to make it sound thick, and once that's all setup I set my volume with the big muffs volume knob. Hope this helps!

  3. Hmmm that is definitely not something I would have thought of independently

  4. Did a bit o youtubin and filter into fuzz isn't quite what I'm after. Anyone have any other ideas? I want a fuzz that sounds like its melting. The Black Arts Toneworks Pharaoh seems kinda up my alley

The Black Arts Toneworks LSTR is more melty than the Pharoah.

Have you checked out a little company called MountainKing Electronics, the best if you want pedals that bring the heavy.

  6. I've heard their name a few times on here. I'll give em a looksie

  7. resurrecting this zombie thread. Still on a hunt for a fuzz tone like in this vid. I'm thinking it sounds along the lines of either a black or a green russian muff? Not sure though. Thoughts anyone?

To my ears it sounds like a Tall Font Russian or similar muff clone into a clean singal blend. Have you tried just looking up the bassist on facebook and shooting him a message? You might get an answer that way.

TAFM (smallsound/bigsound Team Awesome Fuzz Machine) is my favourite fuzz (but wouldn't use it in gated mode), the previously mentioned You're Doom and Mountainking Megalith sounded terrible to me and only survived in my possession for 5 minutes before being sent back.

The drop at 1:49 in that vid sounds like a muff. If that's the tone you want, get a bass friendly one like the Big Bass Muff Deluxe, Wren & Cuff Tall Font Russian, Fuzzrocious Grey Stache, StompUnderFoot Civil War, or COG Grand Tarkin (there are TONS of different muff clones out there) though rather than the regular EHX Big Muff! Added blend and mid controls are useful on muff fuzzes to stop you from dropping out of the mix.

  12. It sounds like a muff to my ears too. I have a GGG-Tuned BMP at the moment, but it doesn't quite sound scooped enough to my ears like this fuzz tone does. I think I might try a Green or Black russian muff variant, perhaps with a blend too.

That video sounds like it's got some clean blend and the tone on the fuzz is pretty low. Definitely not a bright sound, obviously. I don't know if I'd describe it as chunky though. Anyway, some type of Russian muff with a clean blend might be just the ticket. Tall Font Russian, BMP-1, Musket or Collosus could all be good choices.

The fuzz isn't the magic, it's the EQing.
