there are similar posts but I could not find any precise info.. I'd really like to buy a G&L bass to get teh Helmet sound but there are the cheaper "Tribute" models and the very expensive L-2000 models.. Question 1: So what G&L bass model did Henry Bogdan use - was it the G&L L-2000 or G&L M-2000 Tribute or anything else? here some youtube - hemlet live - it looks more like a L-2000...: Question 2: does the much cheaper model "G&L M-2000 Tribute" have the same or a similar helmet-like sound? PS: My amp is Gallien Krueger RB 700 with a 2x12"" GK Cab an I currently use a Yamaha 414bb, which I tuned similar to the helmet sound.. But it is still not growly - enough
The M-Series basses only came out a year or two ago. So; it prety much had to be an L2000. The Tributes are nice enough, but you can get a used USA model for more or less new Tribute prices.
Thank you, I'm just looking in ebay now How do you compare the Yamaha bb414 to the G&L L-2000 in terms of SOUND?
Helmet predated both the M2000 and Tributes, so you're hearing a USA L2000. That being said, it's hard to beat a brand new M2000 for $499. I've got one on the way..just because! http://www.musiciansfriend.com/bass/gl-tribute-m2000-4-string-electric-bass?rNtt=m2000&index=1
So if I try an G&L M-2000 tribute I will probably get a very similar sound to the L-2000? (the shops here do not sell it so I can only order it online) I'v found one G&L M-2000 Tribute and one G&L L-2000 Tribute. SO which one would be better..?
You should listen to some youtube clips. they're fairly different; and I doubt you'd like both equally. it's a pretty personal decision. there isn't "better" in this case; there's only "better for you."
Sorry, with better I meant , which one is near to the Helmet bass sound..? Merry Christmas by the way
Helmet's bass player used a mesa 1x18 and a 4x10, I don't recall the head back then I was drinking alot. The 18 is the growl you hear.
