which gauge for a beatle bass

    The bass is out for delivery so the next step is to get some good strings. Reading through the forum it looks like La Bellas are a good choice. But which gauge to use, extra light (39-96) or regular (50-100)?

    I've got the 50-100 gauge and I'm happy. Very high tension and no short scale floppiness. But I generally prefer heavier strings, period.

    50-100's on my Univox work great.

    Someone recently posted about 39-96's having an unbalanced sound. I'll see if I can find the thread and link it.
