For my needs/experiences I'm down to these two as the best candidates for a mid-priced midscoop: MarkBass Super Booster and EHX Tube Equalizer... There IS a poll though for those who like them....

Yeah that looks nice. I was aiming for a $200 cap tho, or else I'm in BBE BMAX and Tech 21 RBI rack-unit, $300 territory...But if that's the "it" pedal feel free to vote by posting "Tonehammer."

I'm surprised nobody's liking the tubeness of the EHX eq pedal?

the cheapest way is doing it on your amp

  3. I voted for the VT, but you'd get a more scooped sound out of a BDDI. The tone I'm getting with VT is very mid grindy, you can dial in a scooped sound though.

I vote none of those items. Instead, I suggest this:
    E.W.S. Bass Mid Control

    +/- 12db at a frequency between 120hz and 3khz. Boom! Done.

  5. (Assuming you're happy with your basic sound) I'd go for the MarkBass pedal. I have a MarkBass SA450, and I like the VPF control on that on the rare occasions when I want a mid-scoop.

Functionally I'm pretty sure it's a bit more sophisticated than just a simple eq as, to my ears, it's a slightly different sound than just doing the smiley-face thing.

That looks interesting, but like the mid eq on my Peavey Millennium bass, it could be too wide (or narrow) a cut.... I know the Markbass sounds about right from the youtube demo's: before I pull the trigger though I'm hoping for some EHX tube eq users to chime in....

DO keep any comments comin' though!

  7. It's just a notch filter at 380Hz. The Low Mid EQ knob on Markbass amps is a cut/boost at 360Hz, but the Q (slope) is more gentle than the VPF notch filter.

    VPF = 380Hz, narrow band, -18dB
    Low Mid = 360Hz, wide band, +/-16dB

You can actually use the VPF to get a scoop in the middle of your mid boost, should you want that.

  8. +1

More versatile and a small foot print. But run it on an isolated power supply, at 18V is better.

Another +1 for the EWS BMC. An unbelievably wide range of sounds from just two controls in a tiny pedal. No bad sounds in it. So simple to use. And adds 'balls' to your sound. EVERY bass player should own one!

  11. It might be a bit too extravagant and/or expensive for a simple problem such as this, but this is one of the many things that the Aguilar Tonehammer can accomplish for you. If you prefer having a 'one knob scooper', then I vote WTDI. I rarely use the enhance knob on my amp, but it seems to satisfy a lot of more scoop-happy players.

Get a dedicated EQ pedal, like the Source Audio Programmable EQ - cheaper and way more flexible.

    Bump.

Kinda guessed the VT Bass would win the poll....I just don't dig how my Tech 21 Blonde cuts my extreme picking dynamics, even with character fully left for no compression.....

But I am interested in the Hartke, if anyone wants to PM me....

  17. Ever considered a Tronographic Rusty Box? while its mojo is in the mids, they can also be scooped as well giving a nice... well, scooped modern tone.

unless you are looking to shape your tone considerably though, I'd suggest going with an eq pedal like the geb-7 or using your amps eq!

Sorry Amped, [I answered within the post.] I've heard nothing but praise for the Rusty Box. But no xlr out is strange.
