Hello, I own a MIM P-Bass that I upgraded with Schaller hardware (Bridge and tuners.) Now I want to upgrade the pickups, but I am having trouble deciding which brand to buy. I live on GU, so my options are limited. I have narrowed my choices down to a Seymour Duncan Quarter-Pounder, a Seymour Duncan Lightnin' Rods P-bass replacement, or Rio Grande Muy Grande pickup. I have never owned a bass with active electronics before, so I am curious to check out the Lightnin' Rods p-up, but again, I'm not sure. I suppose that I should include some info about me as a player. Players that I like and who influence me include Jack Cassidy, Hutch Hutchinson(sic), Andy Rourke, Geddy Lee, Chris Chaney, Robbie Shakespere, Family Man Barret, and Chris Squire. I could go on and on, but that would be overkill. Thanks in advance for your help. Keep rockin'!! SullyB
FWIW: you might do a TB search for feedback on those pups or a general google search for "whatever" pickup reviews, bass pickup reviews and the like and that will pull some reviews to look through. Personally, I've never had any of those.
Hey all, I have sent away for the Lightnin' Rods P-bass pickup. I checked with the Tone Wizard on Seymour Duncan's website and it suggested that for a Rock/Metal player (That's me! ) with a P-style instrument that has a rosewood neck, the best choice for me would be either the Hot P-Bass or the Lightnin' Rods. I have never owned a bass with active electronics, so I figured that I might as well give the APB-2 a shot. And anyway, if I don't like them, then I can change them out for something else. I aint skeered. Laters, SullyB
