  1. WOW! Very different instruments! If it is a fretted bass you're getting, I would get the F Bass. IMHO, they are more versatile. If you were considering a fretless, I'd say go for the Zon.

My experience with the Legacy fretted is that they are a very modern-sounding bass. And that's about it. I was impressed when I first played one, but it wore off quick. If you're looking for modern, the Zon is it.

The F Bass is a "Swiss Army Knife" of tone. It can go from modern hi-fi to a great vintage Fender Jazz vibe with the flip of a switch.

If you can, try 'em both. They are both excellent instruments.

    Good luck and have fun!

    I like the F!
    I want an F!
So I guess I'm biased; but I have played both models...have to say that the F's are the ultimate bass for me, just haven't found my great deal yet...

Jeff's comments pretty much sum up my experience too-
I'd add that I liked the feel of the F neck better than the Zon. The Zon is slimmer, but the F feels like a great, broken-in vintage neck; pretty round, but felt great with the oil finish.

Tough choice, friend. Hope you get the right one for you.

Man, talk about apples and kumquats. Those basses could hardly be more different.

I just played one of that exact model of F bass with the reversed headstock, in a Sherwood Green. From memory the B's on the other F's I played were fine and so was this one. These have a big, punchy sound with lots of tonal flexibility. Slaps well.

I have a Legacy fretless 5 but it's a bolt-on, which I prefer. Mine also has a Maple body as opposed to Poplar with a top. The Elites I've played have tended to be bright. Full sounding (depending on the strings you use), but bright. Slaps well.

    Interesting choice, a versatile 5 or a distinctive 4.

Hey!, I personally love F basses, their the greatest :) but out of my price range. I'd recommend the F bass hands down. :)

I love me some Zons. never tried a Legacy though. From what I've heard, the adjectives to describe them are as follow: "Bright", "Clean", "punchy". That describes alot of the Zon line, and I really think Zons are much more comfortable than the F basses. F basses didn't win me over sonically or playability wise, I think they're just "meh". I reccomend a Zon. Also, I've been in contact with a guy selling his Sonus Custom 4 if you'd be interested in it, PM me and I'll get you his email address.

I second the Zon vote...I played an F bass, didn't think it was special. I love graphite necks, if you like those, you should get a Zon!!
