I can't decide between getting Nordy's or Barts for my Carvin, as I've never played anything with nordy's before.

I'm lookin for a real smooth, warm, clear tone. I DO NOT want anything with too much growl or honk.

    so... barts or nordy's?

Haven't played nordy's but Barts in general fits your description.

I think you lost Bartolini at "clear".

IMO, the Bartolini CBs are clearer than regular Barts. From the Nordstrand samples that I've heard, they aren't terribly present in the highs either....

Hm, yeah maybe the Bart CB could be your ticket :) I had "regular" barts in a Pedulla and I thought they were dark sounding. You might call that warm.

Certainly Dual Coil pickups of some sort will sound sophisticated, and not growly. I have been gassing for Nordstrand Dual Coils myself, since I have these EMG's that I feel are a little harsh on my bass.
