Vintage white/pale yellow Fender P/J w/maple neck, currently wears an anodized gold pickguard. I'm leaning towards trying a one-ply black replacement. Which would you choose?

  2. I have a P that's turned into a cream color that goes well with it's black p/g.

I'm a big fan of the look of black on vintage white.

The black pickguard looks good on white if it's got a rosewood fingerboard but with maple, it's gotta be tortoiseshell.

This brings me to the question ----

Why is everyone so gaga over tort? I mean yes its beautiful, and nothing fits sunburst finishes like a tortoise, but c'mon, I want some legitimate aesthetic reasoning!

your bass is screaming for the black (either 1-ply or 3) pickguard. That would just ooze taste and class. Tort is sooo overdoonee.... :ninja:

This is why I'm leaning towards black. Nice bass, Bardolph!

LOL, ain't it the truth? I considered not including tort in the poll, due to the intense tort love on TB, but figured people would just respond "tort" on the thread anyway! I am suprised by the margin tort is winning by, so far. Any pics of vintage white P/ tort scratchplate would help the cause.

Black/white/black. There is no other choice.

I always thought it was the opposite. Tort fits nicely with rosewood because the dark color of the fingerboard meshes better with the color of most tort guards. When you have something bright like a maple neck against it though, it looks off.

Seriously, would you wear yellow and reddish brown to a party?

Man, that sends tingles up my spine, to put it politely. . . :crying:

I think nothing beats tortoise with vintage white/cream. . . one-ply black pickguards look cheap.
