thank you all for the answers! SansAmp is not cheap but it has an amp sim... the only problem is choosing between BDDI2 and VT

I use both.. BDDI @ church and I own the VT.
If you want versatility and multiple presets.. splurge for the VT Deluxe.
If you want single preset.. stick with the BDDI.

  7. I had the original subway pre before upgrading to my Darkglass hyper luminal comp, tech 21 qstrip, and custom Verellen meatsmoke pre if i hadnt gone that route the subway pre+ and a ts9dx tubescreamer with the blackfinger tube comp would be my next choice. That option gets pretty close to the same tone albeit the comp is abit noisey but a necessity to add the tube warmth. The eq on the subway pre is the best I've used on any pedal based pre to date only toped by my old Eden Navigator rack pre except the mesa was more versatile sounding. The Eden pre was pretty hifi sounding no matter what I did that was my only reason for moving on. Same reason I ditched my svt4 pro setup before the Eden it was agressive sounding no matter what I did. I could dial my mesa pre to get both sounds fairly easy it just lacked the tube warmth thus why i paired it with the black finger. I moved on from that setup because the comp was noisey and i wanted abit more grit and tube warmth available It is abit of a complex and expensive rig but nails my sound now. Heres a mock up layout pic of my current board im still moving a few things around for optimal placement before cutting my cables but it should give an rough idea of its layout. 20190515_151707.jpg

First I would ask you, what kind of sound are you looking for?

Something with a Cab Sim. For me, that's a DarkGlass VMTU V2. There are others.
You can achieve an effective if not totally convincing cab emulation feel with EQ on the board - but you have to have someone willing to work with you on this. Most sound guys will not have worked this exercise into their setup timeline, even if they're technically qualified to do it.

I like both a warm fat-fingerstyle sound and a brighter pick-sound... And sometimes I play slap too, so I need something versatile :)

    Nope.
Not a fan of the Tech21 stuff.
But lots of people like them, so maybe they'll work for you.

Tech 21 VT Bass can definitely do that. Has a cab sim that can also be switched off if you prefer.

I use the mxr m80 xlr to FOH in a church setting. The sound folks love it. The distortion on this pedal is useless but the color button is magic! Preamp is good also.
