Which Rat is the right Rat?

Discussion in 'Effects [BG]' started by slythe_bassist, Dec 30, 2005.

  1. I'm planning on getting a ProCo Rat pedal but I don't know which one. Rat, Rat 2, Turbo Rat or You Dirty Rat? I've looked up reviews but they're all pretty similar. Can anyone help?

  3. There's a new bass specific rat called the Juggernaut. Anyone tried one of these?

I've owned three RAT 2's and a Turbo RAT. They're very similar, personally I loved the RAT 2 the best, but made an IC swap. Wish I could find that notebook though.

Yes, I have one. I have used it like 2 or 3 times and fiddled a lot with the knobs, there's only downsides of this pedal - for me at least.

    - The distortion is way too evil and gritty for my likes

    - It eats up a lot of tone

    - It tends to get real muddy when fiddleing with the tone knobs

    - There's a very loud pop sound when engaging the pedal

I'd say get that Keeley modded rat :smug:

I picked up the original RAT in the 1980's. The sturdiest stomp
box in the world, although I somehow melted one of the plastic
    tone knobs.

No popping noise in my case but yes, it does eat up tone
(but the NEW wall-of-sound noise is unbeatable!)

    Distortion: 2 'o' clock Tone: 10 'o' clock

    Play it LOUD.
