Which would be easier on my amp?...

I'm using a Peavey T-Max (350watts@4ohms, 500watts@2ohms) as my main gigging amp. I'm wondering if it is better (easier on the amp) to run one 4ohm cabinet with my master volume at 6 or 7, or to go with two 4ohm cabs (for a total of 2ohms) with the master volume at about 3 or 4?

(Right now, this amp barely gets warm pushing one 4ohm cab for four 45 minute sets with the master volume at about 5.)

I'm asking because I have some outdoor gigs coming up this summer, and I don't know what kind of P.A. support will be available, and I may need a little more volume than usual.

Informative replies will be greatly appreciated :) . Thanks...

By running your amp at 2 ohms, it should run more efficiently, allowing it to give you your full 500 watts, but it will also run hotter. I have been running my amp at 2 ohms for years (not continuously) and it has held up just fine.
