Does anyone know the last year that these were made? I love the look but I'm having a hard time finding any.

Well last year for white was 99. So there are plenty out there. Most of them came in black trim.

I had an '86 with black trim and black hardware. It also had a black pickup cover.

I thought it looked pretty sharp.

They come around, keep looking. However, from what I've noticed there seem to be more of them with chrome hardware. It was the black/black scheme that pushed my button with this one.

I had an 80's vintage Tuxedo like this one, which I foolishly sold in the late 1990's.

And of course, Rickenbacker offered a limited run of all white basses that were discussed in this thread. But those were 4001c64's which were a limited edition.

The problem with white Rick's is that they've been notorious for getting discolored over time. Fender has had some of the same problems, too. It's a yellowing that gets pretty fugly as the years go by.

I convert 4 string Rickenbackers to 5 string basses.
That may be correct ... it was somewhere around the year 2000 they discontinued the black trim and the white color.

Here is a 98 4003 in white with black trim.

Ya ... it is really a shame that Rickenbacker does not make the white basses any more.

  12. Ric5, That's one of the most beautiful fingerboards I've ever seen on a Ric. I've got a similar one on my 4003, but it's far from being that nice

The best looking Rickenbacker fretboard was my old 1968 4001 ... and yes I sold that one too.
