Who Are the new funk bands?

+1 to the New Mastersounds and Dumpstaphunk. My band had the privilege for opening for Dumstaphunk when they played here in Morgantown, WV.

Most of what's out there today is just Funky as in having some elements of Funk. Funk was genre in itself. Sorry to inform some of you but groups like Lettuce are not Funk Bands. They are Funky for sure but they are not a Funk Band. I'm afraid that Funk bands are no more, except for the the bands from those years that are still playing. Even some of them after they got more commerical and flashy lost some of their Funk. If you need examples of what a Funk Band is listen to the old groups like Slave, Older Cameo, Older Kool and the Gang, Mandrill (although they played other forms). James Brown is Funk. If you need to understand it further it's like this. The difference between Funky and Funk is like the difference between sexy and sex. Two very different things indeed.

I agree with you but must point out that most audience members would love to see sexy on stage. Sex, not so much except maybe as a novelty.

Really, are any genres "pure" anymore? It seems like all music today is a blend of many genres. It's hard for me to see Dumpstaphunk or Lettuce as not being funk, as they are the closest possible thing to true funk that exists today (as far as I have seen, and I'm sure some of you will correct me on that).

After James opened the formula, George and P-Funk used the "1" so relentlessly that you either rode with it or got run over by it. I'll add the Ohio Players to your list Philly.
