I'm gonna give New Mastersounds another mention. Pete Shand lays down such a sick groove!

But, I didn't see The Motet anywhere and Garrett Sayers is a beast as well.

dumpstaphunk is a great one. they're touring in the USA pretty regularly.

Funk'n'stein the band is another favorite of mine.. they're from Israel and i dont think they'll be in america any time soon, but they've got i think 2 records out that are pretty good.

Galactic is a good one for the new orleans funky stuff, stanton moore, their drummer, worth checking out. nice guy and a great teacher/clinician too.

theres thousands of other good ones, probably 50 or so more that i listen to, but this should get you started.

the good thing about funk is that it branches into a lot of other stuff, like latin/salsa, jazz, even some rock stuff.

I feel like I should add some more.

Mother Funk Conspiracy. I think they only had one album, but it is killer. Any band who has a tune called Hambone Steaksauce is bound to be funky.

Stanton Moore Trio. It's Stanton Moore, Robert Walter, and Will Bernard. I love all of their solo albums. Having them together is icing. Watch them play the tune Pot Licker live at a radio station. Who needs a bass player. Seriously.

Here's a couple of recommendations that are not 'pure' funk, but kind of jazz-funk:
Trombone Shorty "Backatown"
The James Taylor Quartet (no, not that James Taylor - this guy is a Hammond organ player) "Message From the Godfather" and "Bigger Picture"

FYI - trombone shorty's newest album is much more funk oriented. as are their live shows

I wanted to specifically point out KC Roberts and the Live Revolution. It's not really old school, but it's very, very tasty stuff.

I'm also really digging Haggis Horns out of the UK. They definitely have a more old school feel.
