Gotta toss another vote out for Freddy Mercury; he's the standard by which I judge everyone else. Honorable mentions to Maynard James Keenan, and Chris Cornell and Robert Plant in their primes...
Rock pipes? No "best", but a great one is Alex T. Ligertwood. 12 albums with Santana and with Jeff Beck and Brian Auger's Oblivian Express before that.
"Rock" - Aaron Lewis of Staind, also...that evanescence chick has a good voice, but crappy band "Rock AND roll" Robert F'in' Plant
Ive gotta go with Burton Cummings and Chris Cornell (leaning more toward Cornell), but i also really dig Gavin Rossdale from Bush. Peace.
Without a doubt............ Robert Plant. Picked up "How The West Was Won" (DVD) -it should be required material for anyone wanting to see the definition of "FRONTMAN"..
what about this Trio Presley, Lennon and Mccartney. Heartbreak hotel(Elvis),Twis and Shout( lennon), Longtall sally/kansas City (Mccartney)??? Not a bad line up???and you got Three bassplayers among those three...
I think Machaut, the hard grader, would give an A+ to Jerry La Croix frontman for Edgar Winter's White Trash. "I've Got News For You" is one of those songs that shows he's running a bored and stroked V8 under his hood. ------ Freddie was topnotch. The King is called that for that reason. Otis Redding always stole the show. I think Marty Balin had one of the best voices ever in rock, he gets no recognition. One of my fave set of pipes is still the indefatigable Long John Baldry. And finally, who was better vocally than the Beach Boys? Nobody.
