I got to tell you guys. I LOVE J basses. I just got my second fender Jazz today and am going to retire my original 75 Jazz only for recording. They just have that absolutely great playability and tone. I just cant find anything any better I my honest opinion. Anyone else feel like this?:bassist: :D

I'm a HUGE fan of the tone that a "Jazz" bass puts out. No other bass has that "snap" when playing funk lines.

My only complaint about them is the too-few-frets, and the massive body. Compared to my Spector, playing a standard jazz bass is like having a diner table slung over my shoulder. The American Deluxe jazz bass, however, is one of my favorite basses ever. It has a slightly smaller body, a few more frets, and an amazing feeling neck.

    Here's my list:

    1) Darrin Huff "piccolo" style bass.

    2) Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass (but with a maple fretboard and a translucent-red finish, and maybe replace the pickups with EMG-JV's, remove the active EQ, and put in a volume/balance/passive tone setup)

    3) Greg Yancey Semi-Hollow Fretless Five-String

If I had those three basses, I'd be set for life. (I'm getting the first! Yay! I can't wait!!)

  3. matt...i'm SO gonna kill you and take that bass when you get it.;)

  4. The "Greg Yancey Semi-Hollow Fretless Five-String" has one of the coolest textures I have ever seen. Is that natural? And what kind of wood is that? And the soundhole (that is a soundhole carved on the left, correct?) compliments the texture very well.

  5. I love the Fender Custom Classic Jazz Bass is my dream bass. I'm currently (trying) to save up for one. I tried one out in the store the other day. It plays like butter! I know what butter plays like too! It's messy!

That's a spalted sycamore top on that bass.

I do! Love Jazz basses, that is. I currently own a '74 (best I've ever played) and two '99 Jaco Artist J's, fretted and fretless. And I just picked up an '00 American Series J, Hot Rod Red. Nothing quite like 'em.

  8. I used to have a Jazz.

I regret that I sold it to some knucklehead in California. :bawl:

Playing my Geddy through any thing sounds very nice by itself. Then it sounds better when playing when on stage with a band. I always come back saying I like this bass than any other that I've tried before.

I've always wanted a chance to play some more high end jazzes eg. sadowsky, modulus, high end fenders (custom shop)

fender also puts out my 2 favorite finishes black (with mint green pickguard - then again who doesn't put out a black finish?), and crimson transparent (am dlx - with cream pick guard)
