Just curious. What kind of gigs do you play? What kind of gear do you use?
Calling @Gravedigger Dav and @RustyAxe ???
I'm not the oldest at just 64, but I am gettin' older, as are our audiences. We'll play anywhere someone wants us ... and pays us. Classic country is pretty popular around here, but like any genre, venues are getting fewer. I have multiple irons in the fire; a five piece band, acoustic trio, a couple of singer/songwriter projects, and a solo guitar/vocal thing (but haven't had much time for that lately). The band stays quite busy, and with all of it, I'm playing as much as I care to, and sometimes more.
The types of places we play vary, but we don't do the bar 9-1 thing anymore. The band plays a regular gig late afternoon, every other week that draws a regular crowd of 125-150. We pick up private events, campgrounds, and such during the year. I've worked every NYE with them at private parties.
My gear is simple. Fender MIM J-bass, Genz-Benz STL6.0.12T with a STL-12 extension speaker for the band gigs. An acoustic bass guitar for the other projects (either a Tacoma Thunderchief or Guild B50) often to my "mini rig of doom" GK MB200 to a GB STL-8. The only pedal I use is a Korg Pitchblack tuner.
There are opportunities to play good music with good people for good people AND make a few extra bucks ... if one isn't looking to pay the rent or "make the big time".
@slobake is like 90.
Age must be in context. Chronologically I'm 59. First thing in the morning I'm 106.
On stage I'm about 24.
62 year young whipper snapper watching this thread.
@Paulabass I think that affects most of us here and helps keep us "young".
@slobake doesn't REMEMBER 90 - the age OR the number.
Almost 63! I use lot's of gear, but lucked out because bass gear got lighter just as I got older.
Extreme senility and dementia will do that.
Dude ... wha-a-a-a-t?
Why I oughta ...
65 no gigs right now. Probably look for another gig in the spring.
P-Bass, GK MB200, Rumble 40. Probably looking at a tone hammer if I get another gig, depends on the situation. There are places where the band plays all night. That would be my first choice.
Doing okay for an old geezer .
Geez, will you get a tort guard on that thing, ot at least an anodized one. You're embarrassing us.
Huh? That is anodized, that is my MIM 50's P with Snoopy on the Pickguard.
My apologies - looked white.
I KNEW I'd seen you somewhere before..
All this time I've been talking to one of the original Eagles....
Have you been hanging out at the Hotel California again?
@Gravedigger Dav is 74 and still rockin' plus runs the Fender Rumble Club.
He's been mentioned twice and still hasn't answered. Must be his nap time.
