Someone posted this way back, but thought why not get some fresh feedback! And someone mentioned him on a thread so thought why not post again! My personal favorites are MonoNeon/PolyNeon and this young kid called Alex Miller, wonderful bassist, way young too! Here is one of his vids:
I'm currently stealing from....borrowing from.....taking inspiration from, this guy; https://www.youtube.com/user/thelusienorchestra/videos
Grzegorz Kosinski Because how many other bassists can play two instruments at the same time? This guy's skills are mind-blowing and really pushed me to take my tapping further. I'm nowhere close to his skill level, but I'm working on it! Might as well add Zander Zon, too.
The entire notion of someone being a "YouTube Bassist" -- which to my mind suggests those solo bedroom warriors who play along to recordings or Music Minus One renditions in front of a video camera -- really offends me. Not to belittle the work that a lot of these players have obviously put into their instrument, it's just that it has so little to do with what I believe playing music is about that I find the very existence of this phenomena depressing. However...there are a few bassists who I only discovered as a result of YouTube. These are guys who play in bands, who record and tour and perform with other musicians in the same room, and who A) just happen to have a YouTube presence (which is pretty hard not to do these days) and B) I just happened to discover via YouTube rather than via CDs or LP records or the radio or seeing them live...and I'm more than happy to pretend that that's what this thread is asking about! Using that definition, my favorite YouTube bassists are - Ric Fierabracci - Laurence Cottle - Henrik Linder - Hadrien Feraud Special mention to Alain Caron and Jimmy Haslip, who I was vaguely familiar with before YouTube but only really started to delve into their work through YouTube.
Marlowdk... does some neat stuff and had some great tutorials. deppwaswho...... young girl , self taught and spot on in her playing, Check out her cover of Hysteria by Muse.
That dress fooled me for a sec until I started to see him play, then I forget all about the fact he was wearing one! haha
ALIONBASS aka Alain M. Great tone. He's helped me learn a lot of songs haha. His fingering very fluid so sometimes it is hard to see what his hands are doing. I'm working on that myself. My left doesn't get tired, but his just looks like zero effort.
