    Anyone who has been on TalkBass for even a couple of years probably has noticed that certain posters always weigh in on certain topics to the extent that it is disappointing when they do *not* post. You come to respect them as "authorities" on those topics and credit their posts a bit more than you do some others. So, to whom do you give extra credibility and on what topics?

    I will start.

    @JIO for the vintage Japanese stuff
    @Thornton Davis for Hagstrom and Vox
    @LBS-bass for handling multiple bands at once
    @cdef and @HaphAsSard for the European stuff

    Now it's your turn to throw down. Whatcha got?

    :) I can only attest to enjoying the history of the period I grew up in and of which I started my journey as a musician.., so I don't consider myself an 'authority'... much like you, I'm just an 'across the board' '60s vintage bass geek that enjoys seeing/learning/enlightening (if I can) those who are unaware of those 'off-center' basses. There are plenty of Fender, Gibson, Gretsch, etc 'authorities' on tb... I'm an active participant at best, but thanks for the mention.

    First off, thank you very much for the kind words. However, I'm not comfortable being listed alongside such distinguished company: my only claim to TB fame is merely being brown-belt in google fu, and being able to apply it in a handful of languages other than my own (most of which I don't speak, mind you).

    Here's a non-comprehensive list of TB members I've noticed enough to now stop and read carefully through their contributions in threads; please note that, even when an area of expertise is specified below, I definitely tend to take note of their opinion of other matters:
    for amps and cabinets it's @Passinwind, @fdeck, @Wasnex, @ThisBass, @Arjank, @Bob Lee (QSC), @Mark Reccord, @micguy;
    @GretschWretch, @Bflat for vintage USA-made instruments;
    as said, whenever a bass mystery comes up, @cdef darn nearly always solves it;
    @bholder and @B-Mac for, but by no means limited to, acoustic bass guitars;
    @Michedelic for bands (and solo artists);
    @michael_t and @Yahboy really know strings;
    @walterw, @khutch, @Stealth for pickups and electronics;
    speaking of which, @Cadfael has made a monumental contribution to TB and bassdom at large with his incredible collection of bass wiring schematics;
    last but not least, @ctmullins, @beate_r, @Old Garage-Bander.

    Even above knowledge, I value intellectual rigour in the above posters (as well as everyone else): not just bestowing pills of wisdom, but taking time to examine other points of view and explain where the latter fall short, thus leaving the reader with more elements to decide for themselves.

    I forgot about @Jeff Scott for Rickenbacker. And I may have over-stated "authorities" when I should have said "people whose posts are particularly worth paying attention to." But cut me some slack, will ya? It was after eleven last night when I posted the thread, and I was high on Kellogg's Corn Pops.

    I think you will find that most of us with a lot of experience in our areas share this hoping that others benefit. It’s a way of paying our good fortune forward.

    I respect everyone who contributes, but I love those who can teach me something, and explain difficult things in a simple way that I can understand.

    Thanks to everyone who has succeeded in this !!! (Or at least made the effort to try.) :hyper:

    I’d probably go with @WI Short Scaler for restoring and rehabbing Fender and Squire short scale basses. Especially because (if I’m not mistaken) he seems to play them exclusively.
