So, picked up a Custom LG3005 a little over a year ago. Despite owning several other boutiques in the past, along with several USA Jazz, PBass, and current Stingray 5 (other favorite bass), I just cant get over the build and sound quality of the Roscoe, atleast this one (IMHO).

Maybe it is the punch-factor, the tightness/evenness of the B string (never heard/felt anythinglike it), the all-Bart electronics, the flawless finish work, the sapwood ebony neck, the lightness (9.3lbs), the feel, or all the above, it's just great.

I will likely contact Roscoe, but if anyone knows how to identify the 2 middle body layers (4 total layers, seen in pic), please let me know. According to the previous owner, it has an Imbuia Burl top and swamp ash body.

    Regards

Send a few pics to Keith (with natural sunlight if you can help it). I doubt he will have much trouble Id-ing those.
I'm with you on the overall package of the brand. I am sitting next to six of them as i type this, all built or bought new, back to 1994. I've played dozens of them and there's never been one that didn't stack up, from the plainest builds to the most outlandish. The guy knows what he is doing.

Crazy, right? I too seem to play better and more effortlessly when using using Roscoe, and that was from the first time I picked it up. Wild

Seriously though.... sweet bass. Being from NC, where they're made, I've played a bunch of them over the years. (You should go back and look at some of their creations from the 80s!) Outstanding quality and playability.

I own 4 of these for all the reasons you mentioned, plus the unique 18.3 mm spacing. Not too wide not too tight. Perfect for me. I think that’s a Bubinga or monogany layer or “racing stripe” as they call them. I have a signature model that’s similar
