Discussion in 'Bassists [BG]' started by Esquillama, Mar 2, 2006.

  1. Who's the bass player for Orleans' "Dance with me"?
I'm diggin' that tone, feel, and line.

    Anybody know who played that?

It's an electric bass, NOT a synth!!

no,it's not -it's John Hall simulating a fretless bass on a moog synth.-if you can find a copy with credits you'll see that Lance Hoppen (Orleans' bassist, did not play on that track -unusual,because,he played on everything else they recorded ) I met John in the mid 70's on his solo tour(after he'd left the group),i know first hand. careful scrutiny& a good set of headphones will reveal the annoying pitch bending synth wheel

  6. I am thoroughly disappointed.

It's still a cool song, but now it's lost a bit of it's luster for me.
Thank you for setting that straight.

I STILL say it's FRETTED electric bass, not moog synth. On the glisses you can hear the frets go by . . . on the moog it would sound like "portamento", a continuous gliss. But NOOOO, you can hear the chromatic gliss (from the frets).
I don't really want to argue, you have your reality (and memories), I have mine . . .

it's not an argument. i thought the same. when told by the guy wrote it (and played the synth bass),it seems so apparent. they're really not fret sounds, but, the" attack" of the synth(however it was programmed).maybe there's a way to get mr. hall's email address-"the horse's mouth"--i'll get back on that
