I have the GS210, but I dont think its quite enough on its own. I would rather not add a 15 due to portability issues so the 1-12 is the next choice. Can anyone who uses this exact setup comment on how the cabinets sound together & how it sits in the mix? Power is not a concern. I'm running a DB 659 into a PLX2402.
I don't own this combination, so you better take this with however many grains of salt (a live gig is the only true test). I did play this setup (GS210 + GS112) at an Ag dealer powered by a DB750 (so the preamp part of the equation should be extremely close). The bass used was my trusty SR5. I really, REALLY liked the sound of this setup. There is a definante complementary synergy going on with these two cabs which gives you that "the end result is greater than the sum of the parts" response. It has a lot more punchiness and mid-bass through midrange articulation than two GS112s, and the one GS112 gives that extra heft and power to the bottom end of the GS210. [Two of each split up off your PLX2402's two channels would be awesome (and probably overkill).]
dave siff uses a 212 + 210 combo...the consensus is that the 10's add a lot of punch to some people's perceived fluff of the 12's.
That might be my next rig. (2) GS210's and (2) GS112's. I thought maybe one set for a mini rig, and both sets for a larger rig.
hmmmmm. Tell ya what. I've got a gig tonight, and I was going to use my "mini rig of doom", which is my full rack (amp is DB750) plus two GS112s. I also own a GS410 and a GS210, so I could run the setup you are asking about. No promises, but I'll let you know tomorrow how it goes. Cool?
Craig...That would be awesome to get a real world review of how this set up (gs112 + gs210) sounds. Please keep us posted. Regards.
I'm really looking forward to the review; I like the idea of 1x12" and 2x10"; it's portable and should sound good.
Well...uh..er...em...I did say no promises, right? It turned out I didn't have enough time to get to my storage to make the swap, so I did the gig with the two GS112s. Sorry man. I'll bet you the combo of the 1x12 and 2x10 would be killin'. I do prefer the sound of multiple 10s to 12s anyway. The 2x10 cab would add a more focused punch, and the 4 ohm load will boost the output of your amp significantly over the 8 ohm load you're running now.
You had us juiced. At this point, you owe the TB world a DB750 + GS210 + GS112 review (with all the gory details). How about next time?
I have a DB659 going into a PLX1602 going to a GS410 and 2 GS112's. It's pretty cool. I put the GS112's on the other side of the stage. It's pretty sweet. Nice balance so I don't have to push the speakers too hard.
Craig; Mini-rig of doom. I like it. I've got the next best thing IMO, DB 659, SWR 750 power amp, 2 GS 112's. I like it.
Cool, i was going to ask about the sound of a 4x10 with two GS112's. do you run the 112's both on one channel of the amp and then the 410 on the other?
This thread caught my attention because I currently have 2 GS112's and I'm considering selling one of them and replacing it with a GS210. I power my two GS112's with a Mesa M-Pulse 600. I've got killer tone and plenty of bottom, but to be honest, the midrange is not as punchy as I would prefer it to be. I've already got pricing on the 210 from Gard at BC, so I may take the plunge as early as next week. I'm gigging later this month, so I'll be sure to post a review.
It's funny how we all have come close to this setup but not quite. I did have the pleasure of trying out this combo in a music store. I ran through an Aguilar or Eden head (can't remember specifically), an Eden 2x10 and an Aguilar GS112. It was right after Aguilar came out out with those. To be honest, I loved the tone of this setup. It was like the most pleasing 2x10 you've heard. The 1x12 added a rich bottom without being too abnoxious. The big "however" in this story is that I was playing in a store atmosphere and not in live setting, and we all know how that goes. So I'm curious as well to hear Craig's assessment of this if he gets a chance to try this out live. FWIW, I'm currently using a 2x10 with an Aguilar 1x15 and combo is wonderful (frankly one of the best 1x15 cabs I've played through) but I would guess the 1x12 would provide a little more focus (?). I've considered the 2x10 + 112 setup for portability reasons as well.
Well, I no longer have my GS210, and I never did get around to trying it with the GS112. However, the GS210 cab is fairly big and heavy, especially for a 2x10, so it kind of defeats the purpose of being truly portable. However, the new S series cabs from Aguilar are smaller and a bit lighter, as they are rear ported instead of front ported. I'll most likely pick up an S410 and S210 to replace the cabs I traded towards my new AG500 amp. Don't get me wrong, the GS cabs are wonderful, and I'd still have them if someone else was moving my gear for me. It just turns out that two GS112s are more than enough for any gig I do...even the largest of venues.
Well, I ordered the GS210 from Gard at BC today (Thanks, Gard!) I hope to have it in time for my next gig on 8/28. If I have it, I will post a review. My rig will be as follows: Mesa M-Pulse 600 delivering 600W into a GS210 and a GS112. I play fingerstyle and slap on fretted and fretless, so I should have some good information for anyone interested. Insert shameless plug for GS112 sale: By the way, the day my GS210 arrives, I will be putting one of my mint GS112's up for sale. Only gigged twice! It comes with one of the nice thick covers with the plush red velour inside.
